TO MY FRIENDS
ADVENTURE AND CULTURAL INSIGHTS CAN BE FOUND ALMOST ANYWHERE. HOW YOU DECIDE TO TRAVEL AND WHAT YOU DECIDE TO DO IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHERE YOU DECIDE TO GO AND WHAT YOU INTEND TO SEE. THINKING IN TERMS OF "DOING" RATHER THEN "SEEING" WILL ENHANCE THAT MOST VITAL, OFTEN ELUSIVE DIMENSION TO YOUR TRAVELS: DEPTH.
Do you know who is the man in the picture?
He is Ernesto Guevara (CHE).
I attached a picture of him because the idea of my trip born in 2006 after read his book "THE MOTORCYCLE'S DIARY"; it's the journal of his trip around South-America with his friend Alberto Granado in the saddle of Poderosa II.
So, this is my little and personal tribute to the man that inspired my trip.
Unfortunately, I couldn't do a trip as "Che" did, but, at least, I have been in 4 places visited by him: Buenos Aires, Cuzco, Lima, Machu Picchu.
There are left only others 59...not too bad :-/
I have done this trip cause I felt the need to discover new worlds, to meet people with differents background, to sink into the life of the native people that I was going to meet.
I did really big mistakes before the trip and during it....but I knew that everything was not going to be easy.
Decided to organize it by myself and travel "alone" in countries so far and so differents from Europe has been a bit crazy.
I took up the challenge with myself..
I have to admite that I was really excited when I was making the preparation for the journey........but then.......a few weeks before depart I was really scared; I felt in a situation bigger then me and when people where telling me that I was really brave to do this trip I was always answering that maybe I was just stupid.........
After all; I can say that I was right...you should do this kind of trips by yourself. It's not an easy way but it's the most profitable investment to do it.
I even learned that the good things to be a solo traveler are that you learn more about yourself, I found out what my likes and dislikes were and I have been able to act on them.
I felt more open to meet new people because I was less distract to a friend and that help also to notice the small things that were happening around me.
In one month and a half I felf alone just the firsts days in new places; people around have a kind of liking to travellers with huge rucksack on the back.
I started met people in the underground when I was leaving Hammersmith station to go to Heatrow (JOERG)..and thats never stopped until the end in the plane Buenos Aires - London with an handsome Swiss guy (DAVID)....
At this point, I'd take advantage of the opportunity to say thank you to British Airways to give to his costumers free alcohol and cookies....we made a nice parties there. Thanks.
So, you'll see pictures from Mexico, Perù, Argentina and my last days in London after the trip....hope you'll enjoy it.
Now I will leave you with myself, with what I was...
Love you
Veronica
